Video ot the week

Walking on water may only ever have a mystical explanation, but the equally fantastic sight of boats flying on water is firmly rooted in science. The Greek word 'Hydroptère' means 'marine wing', or foil. It is these that allow the boat to step up - quite literally - from the Archimede's principle, the buoyancy law that explains why boats float. The video shows just how effectively the foils' vertical push on the water is as trimaran Hydroptere flies across the sea.
