Until the early 13th century, ships sailing the Baltic Sea were 10-25 m long, about 5 m wide, with a draught of 1-2 m. The most remarkable find of this period in Latvia is the "Rīga ship", uncovered by the archaeologists in 1939 in the aquatorium of the ancient port of Rīga.
